Stanhill Farm News!

The farming team have been very busy planting a wide variety of vegetables, including broccoli, cabbages, sweetcorn, and sunflowers. Pumpkins and squashes have also now been planted and are beginning to come through nicely. Runner beans are starting to appear too, so we are currently in the process of putting up the canes ready to support the plants as they continue to grow.

Traditionally, asparagus harvesting comes to an end on 21st June (Midsummer's Day), signalling the close of the British asparagus season. This year, however, the combination of unusually hot weather earlier in the season, followed by a spell of colder nights, has had a significant impact on growth. As a result, the season may finish a little earlier than usual. So, if you are a fan of British asparagus, now is the perfect opportunity to enjoy it while it is still at its best.

Our Maize Maze is growing well so far, and we just need to get a good mixture of sun and rain for it to become nice and tall in time for when it opens in July!

Following our feature on sourdough bread in last month’s newsletter, we are sad to say goodbye to our sourdough baker, Sourdough Mikate, as they relocate to Dubai. We will certainly miss the delicious sourdough loaves, but we would like to wish Hannah and her family the very best of luck with their move and thank them for supplying us with such wonderful bread over the past year.

Kent (Faversham) cherries are now available to buy from our Farm Shop! We have a special basket deal - £15.00 per 2kg basket or available loose for £10.00 per kg. Make the most of this nutrient packed fruit while it’s in season! Sweet, juicy and packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants!

We are also sourcing cherries from Roughway Farm in Tonbridge, and we are hoping to bring in some of their excellent Magic Star apples, which have just been released from cold storage.

Strawberries and blackberries are being sourced from Hugh Lowe Farm in Maidstone. Doughnut peaches, peaches, and nectarines are now available. These are Spanish. Kent, Cornish, and Jersey New potatoes are all still available.

We are currently harvesting asparagus. Fresh from the fields, zero food miles and no plastic!
