May is National Asparagus Month - the perfect time to try out this delicious vegetable! The British asparagus season runs from April to June and is considered to be the best in the world. When buying asparagus choose firm but tender stalks with a good colour and closed tips. Before cooking, wash in cold water and remove the ends of the stalks. Boil or steam until just tender (4-7 minutes depending on thickness). Alternatively, try it in a stir-fry, blend into soup or simply boil on its own and season with a little salt and pepper!  
 
Nutritionally, asparagus is packed full of goodness, so not only are you getting a delicious vegetable but a healthy one too! Eating asparagus promotes healthy bacteria in the large intestine and can help reduce bloating. It contains vitamin K, essential for healthy blood clotting and is a rich source of vitamin C, which boosts the immune system. Asparagus is a mild diuretic and is believed to help detoxify the body. Our own Stanhill Farm asparagus harvest is now in full swing, priced at £4.50 per 250g (bundle) or 2 for £7.00!

We are pleased to announce that our 2026 Maize Maze will be opening in July in time for the school summer holidays, and this year's theme will be ‘Traitors’! Sadly, we are saying goodbye to our sourdough baker, Sourdough Mikate, as they relocate to Dubai. We will miss the sourdough loaves, but wish Hannah and her family the best of luck for their move and thank them for supplying us with their wonderful bread over this past year.

Jersey Royal potatoes have now come down in price to £8.00 per kilo. Cornish potatoes have just started, also priced at £8.00 per kilo. Hugh Lowe (Kent) strawberries are also now available.
