Stanhill Farm News!

We hope everyone had an enjoyable and restful Christmas and we wish you a healthy and Happy New Year!

We had a very busy Christmas period, with the popularity of the trees and the orders both via the Farm Shop and Click & Collect Service.  We would like to say a BIG thank you to all our customers for your continued support over the past year!

Blood oranges are now in season. A rather gruesome name for a wonderfully sweet and beautifully coloured fruit. The inside flesh of a Blood orange is usually brilliantly dark pink, maroon or even dark blood red. A fantastic source of vitamin C and rich in other essential antioxidants!

For any marmalade makers, we also have Seville oranges available. Seville are ideal for making marmalade, although every bit of the fruit from the zest to the juice and pips can be used in cooking. The season for Seville oranges is very short so make the most of them while you can!

It is Burns Night on Thursday 25th January, when Scotland raises a glass in patriotic celebration of national bard, Robert Burns.  If you are celebrating you will need all the traditional ingredients for a hearty supper! This mixture of neeps (swede) and tatties (potato) is the mandatory Burns Night accompaniment to haggis. Some prefer to roast the potatoes as well as boiling them, whereas others prefer to mash the two components down to a smooth puree, which works beautifully with the rough, oaty haggis. We still have a few packs left of Macsween haggis, available to buy from the Farm Shop! Both traditional and vegetarian haggis is available! Subject to availability.

Magic Star apples are still being sourced from Roughway Farm, Tonbridge. Braeburn, Russet, Bramley and Gala are still English but are being sourced from the wholesale market.

We are currently harvesting parsnips, leeks, sprouts, kale and kalettes. Fresh from the fields, zero food miles and no plastic!
