Stanhill Farm News!

From the 18th - 26th February it is Real Bread Week! This is an international celebration of real bread and the people who make it. It is time to kick the additive-laden supermarket loaf habit and support your local producers! We love our daily bread, delivered fresh each morning (except Sundays) by our local bakery and offering a wide variety of delicious loaves including Bloomers, Farmhouse, Granary, GI and Wholemeal, not forgetting soft and crusty rolls.

We still have Blood oranges and nadorcotts available, however, Seville oranges are now coming to an end. These delicious citrus fruits are very popular, and the seasons are short, so make the most of them while you can!

Tuesday 21st February is Shrove Tuesday, so don't forget your pancake essentials! You can buy all your ingredients from the Farm Shop - flour, eggs, milk, and lemons. If you are feeling indulgent you could always pick up some honey and fresh cream!

Pancake Day comes from the old English custom of using up all the fattening ingredients in the house before Lent, so that people were ready to fast during Lent. The fattening ingredients that most people had in their houses in those days were eggs and milk, therefore, a very simple recipe to use up these ingredients was to combine them with some flour and make pancakes!

We have picked up the last of the Magic Star apples from Foxendown Fruit Farm, Meopham. They will place their remaining stock of apples into a cold store (giant fridge) to be put to ‘sleep’ - this controls the atmosphere the apples are kept in. By lowering the oxygen level in the air, the ripening process can be slowed down and sends the apples into a dormant state. The farm will then re-open their cold store in mid-late May.

We are currently harvesting parsnips, leeks, red sprout tops, and kalettes. Fresh from the fields, zero food miles and no plastic!

All of the above are available to buy from both our Farm Shop and Click & Collect Service. Subject to availability.
