Stanhill Farm News!

Easter is just around the corner, and within the next week we will see the welcome return of our favourite Hot Cross buns! Delivered fresh each morning by our local bakery, make the most of these tasty treats while they are still around! It is traditional to eat warm Hot Cross buns on Good Friday, with their combination of spicy, sweet, and fruity flavours they have long been an Easter tradition.

Superstitions about Hot Cross buns ranged from the belief they had medicinal powers, to sailors insisting on having them on board to ensure a safe voyage. Today it is still considered good luck to hang one above your door on Good Friday. We currently also have Easter Cakes (large/round) priced at £5.50 each, Easter Muffins priced at £3.50 each (pack of two), Easter Bakewell tarts priced at £1.50 each, and Easter Gingerbread priced at £1.50 each.

We are pleased to announce that from the middle of April we will have sourdough bread available! Produced locally by baker, Sourdough Mikate, we will be offering a range of nine different varieties of sourdough bread. Sourdough has been requested by many customers over the years, so we are very excited to be working with a sourdough bakery!

Orders will be delivered to the farm every Friday morning, for collection from 9:30am onwards.  Please place your order by 12:00pm on a Wednesday. Our first delivery will be on Friday 18th April. To place your order, please visit www.sourdoughmikate.co.uk. If you have any questions or queries regarding sourdough bread or the ordering process, please email: info@stanhillfarm.co.uk.

Jersey Royal potatoes are now available, however, as it is still very early in the season the price is currently high at £10.00 per kilo. This price will come down as the season goes on and more become available. The start of Jersey Royals is always a good sign as it indicates that the weather is improving!

Where possible, we are sourcing English Braeburn apples from the wholesale market, along with English Bramley and Cox. We hope to source more Magic Star apples from Roughway Farm, Tonbridge, sometime in April when they open their cold stores once again.

Sprouts and kalettes have now finished, and unfortunately, kale has finished sooner than we hoped due to being destroyed by pigeons. We are currently harvesting parsnips and leeks and will soon be harvesting rhubarb and asparagus. Fresh from the fields, zero food miles and no plastic!

All of the above are available to buy from both our Farm Shop and Click & Collect Service, with the exception of the Easter Cakes, Easter Muffins, Easter Bakewell tarts, and Easter Gingerbread, which are only available from the Farm Shop. The sourdough bread, as mentioned above, can be ordered directly with the baker. Subject to availability.
