Stanhill Farm News!

Today (1st March) is Shrove Tuesday, so don't forget your pancake essentials! You can buy all your ingredients from the Farm Shop - flour, eggs, milk, and lemons. If you are feeling indulgent you could always pick up some honey and fresh cream!

Pancake Day comes from the old English custom of using up all the fattening ingredients in the house before Lent, so that people were ready to fast during Lent. The fattening ingredients that most people had in their houses in those days were eggs and milk, therefore, a very simple recipe to use up these ingredients was to combine them with some flour and make pancakes!

It is British Pie week from Monday 7th – Sunday 13th March, and as a nation of pie fanatics it appears that we love nothing better than a wholesome pie! We stock a wide selection of Kentish pies - choose from a delicious variety including Steak & Ale, Steak & Kidney, Chicken & Bacon, Chicken, Brie & Cranberry, and Spinach & Mushroom. All priced at £2.85 each, and we also stock a large Black Cherry fruit pie priced at £8.00.

We now stock fresh, local meat in the Farm Shop, sourced from Glovers Quality Meats in Hartley, Kent. Owned and run by the Glover family for four generations, with cattle, sheep and pigs being reared on their own farm. The animals are fed on cereals and feed produced by the farm, supplemented with natural mineral concentrates for optimum health and well-being, enabling the farm to guarantee a diet that is 100% hormone and additive free.

Choose from chicken thighs, chicken fillets, beef mince, lamb chops, pork chops, sausages, bacon, and ham. Delivered to Stanhill Farm every week on a Tuesday and Friday.

English Forced rhubarb is now available, sourced from the Rhubarb Triangle in West Yorkshire, famous for producing early Forced rhubarb. The rhubarb is kept in complete darkness and pickers then pull the stalks in candlelight, as any exposure to strong light will stop the growth. Forced rhubarb is priced at £6.50 per kilo, more expensive than the rhubarb cut later in the year due to the specialised way in which it is grown and harvested.

We still have Blood oranges and nadorcotts available, however, Seville oranges are now coming to an end. These delicious citrus fruits are very popular, and the seasons are short, so make the most of them while you can!

We are currently harvesting sprouts, kalettes and leeks. Fresh from the fields, zero food miles and no plastic!

All the above products are available to buy from both our Farm Shop and Click & Collect Service (subject to availability), with the exception of meat, which is available from the Farm Shop only.
