Stanhill Farm News!

We hope all of our customers had a restful Easter weekend and enjoyed plenty of chocolate!

Isle of Wight Golden Mini Plum tomatoes are now available! Healthy and colourful, these compact tomatoes lack nothing when it comes to their amazing flavours. The perfect salad companion, they are also great for putting in the kids’ lunch boxes and will not hang around for long due to their delicious sweetness! We also have the regular Isle of Wight Mini Plum tomatoes available. Left to ripen on the vine and picked at their peak of flavour, these delicious tomatoes have few seeds, a medium juice content and are blessed with a subtle, sweet flavour.

We have just started pulling our own rhubarb, which is now available in the farm shop. Currently priced at £4.50 per kilo, therefore cheaper than the Forced rhubarb that we also stock.

We are beginning to see availability of some of the English greenhouse crops, and are now stocking English Little Gem lettuce and English cucumber. Keep an eye out for more to come!

With the snow we have had this year and the relentless wet weather, the fields are extremely boggy which is preventing us from getting the tractors on them and working the land ready for planting. The weather forecast for the end of the week is looking more promising, so let's hope they have got it right so we can begin getting this year's crops in the ground.

Jersey Royal potatoes are now available, however, as it is still early in the season the price is currently high at £6.50 per kilo. This price will come down as the season goes on and more become available. The start of Jersey Royals is usually a good sign as it indicates that the weather is improving! However, this year has been a bit different, but we can only hope that things begin to improve soon!

We are now harvesting Savoy and Tundra cabbages, Purple Sprouting broccoli, White Sprouting broccoli, leeks and parsnips. It will be the final week for harvesting Red kale, kale, kalettes and sprouts. Cavolo nero has now finished.
