Stanhill Farm News!

It is British Pie week from Monday 5th - Friday 9th March, and as a nation of pie fanatics it appears that we love nothing better than a wholesome pie! We stock a wide selection of Kentish pies in the farm shop! Choose from a delicious variety including Steak & Ale, Steak & Kidney, Smoked Haddock, Chicken & Bacon, Chicken, Brie & Cranberry, and Spinach & Mushroom. All priced at £2.00 each and we also stock a large fruit pie priced at £5.00.

We were very happy to see the back of last week's snow and have welcomed the milder temperatures and sunshine! Farmer Toby worked hard to keep the farm shop topped up with produce during the snowy weather and we remained surprisingly busy, with customers refusing to let the snow get in the way of their shopping! We endeavoured to keep the parking area gritted and clear of snow and we would like to thank all our customers who were still able to get to us in such difficult conditions. Hopefully the mild temperatures continue and we can now begin to look forward to Spring!

The wholesale market has been very slow as many of the traders were unable to get there because of the weather conditions. This had a knock-on effect in their confidence in buying produce as it much of it was not up to its usual standard. Cauliflower doesn't cope well in heavy frosts so there is now a real shortage, therefore, we may see a large price hike. Unfortunately we were unable to source any at market on Sunday night.

We are now harvesting Savoy and Tundra cabbages, Red kale, kale, sprouts, leeks, parsnips, cavolo nero and kalettes.

Easter is just around the corner, so please note our farm shop opening times as follows:

Good Friday (30th March): 9:00am - 4:00pm
Easter Saturday (31st March): Normal hours
Easter Sunday (1st April): Closed
Easter Monday (2nd April): Closed

Keep an eye on our website, Facebook or Twitter pages for details of our delicious Hot Cross Buns and Easter Cakes!  Please pre-order your Hot Cross Buns from the farm shop to avoid disappointment, as they are very popular and sell out quickly.

The government will soon be extending the 5p carrier bag charge to smaller businesses. We have now introduced this for the farm shop as part of our mission to reduce packaging and waste. If we all do our bit to help minimise our impact on the environment, no matter how small the contribution, it will make a difference.

Jersey Royals are usually ready in time for Mother's Day but may be late this year due to the cold weather conditions. We hope everyone has a lovely Mother's Day this coming Sunday and all the mums out there get thoroughly spoilt!
